Today's vehicles are extremely complex. The correct tooling to repair and diagnose them is cost prohibitive to all but a few shops. Most repair shops can't afford a factory scan tool for every type of vehicle they service. Without the factory tooling, quickly and accurately diagnosing a vehicle can be a real challenge. This does NOT mean that your only option is a dealership! Many dealership technicians are payed based on what repairs are sold to you, the customer. In becomes in their best interest to sell additional parts or repairs that are not needed.
Although we generally only service collision and mechanical repair shops, we can usually accomodate the general public as well. A couple of conditions apply however.
First of all, trying to pin down an exact time for an appointment is almost impossible. Since we have no idea how long each diagnostic or programming job will take, nor do we have any control over traffic conditions in between stops, if you need an exact time for us to come, we are not a service for you. As long as the vehicle will be stationary at one location for the duration of the day, we can work you into our schedule.
In addition, Somerset Mobile Diagnostics is NOT a repair service. We do not purchase, nor install replacement parts. We come to you to diagnose whatever fault the vehicle may have. It is your responsibility to aquire and install the parts that are diagnosed. Although we stand behind every diagnostic service we perform, there is absolutely no warranty if used or aftermarket parts are installed.
You may be asking what the point of our service is. Many times your normal mechanic just determine the cause of a troublesome problem. Or sometimes you may not feel comfortable with the explanation you received after a repair. Sometimes you may just be tired of wasting money chasing a ghost of a problem that no one else seems to be able to find. We have the knowledge and the factory tooling to quickly, accurately and professionally diagnose any computer controlled problem. We charge a basic flat rate fee, and although the fee may not sound inexpensive at first, the value you receive with our service is second to none.

Lost your keys?
Although we cannot cut blank ignition keys, if you have a key made from a locksmith or dealership parts department, we can come to your vehicle to program that key. With the cost of towing a vehicle skyrocketing, we can save you a ton by coming to you.
Told you need a "flash" update?
Many people fail to realize that their vehicle is actually a complex network of computers working together. Just like your home computer, the software in your vehicle needs periodic updates. Many repair shops do not own the expensive computer systems required to flash update the software. Don't head to the dealership where you will most likely encounter an upsell of some sorts to add to the cost of the repair. We can come to you with the same diagnostic equipment the dealerships are using but because we are not a repair service, you will never be told you need additional parts.
TPMS warning light on?
A low tire warning indicator is usually due to low tire inflation. However, if that light is flashing or if you see the letters TPMS illuminated, that means your vehicle can no longer communicate with one of the installed TPMS sensors. If one of those sensors has been replaced, the serial numer of that unique transmitter will need to be programmed into the vehicles network before your vehicle will recognize that sensor. We can come to you to perform that service.
No start/Poor running condition?

Antilock Braking problems?
With sensors on all four wheels in addition to components such as steering angle, yaw rate, lateral acceleration and brake pressure sensors, the braking system on your vehicle is complex to say the least. Some braking systems use inputs from those sensors to control braking force and traction control faster than you can blink. These systems are complex and require dedicated equipment to properly diagnose. We can diagnose, reprogram and recalbrate any component in a modern abs/traction control system.
Need to replace an onboard computer?
Most modern vehicles require some sort of programming or initialization upon replacement of one of the on board computers. Sometimes it is as simple as entering your vehicles VIN number. Other times, procedures such as Immobilizer synchronization, idle speed adjustments, tire size or transmission ratios need to be entered. Many times the computer you purchase will come with no software installed on it, similar to purchasing a home computer without an operating system installed. We can perform any necessary procedure upon replacement of a vehicle computer. Many times a dealership will tell you a used computer can not be installed. SRS system troubles?
Many shops today do not want to work on supplemental restraints systems due to the liability involved and the danger of working with explosive charges. It's no wonder you will hear many shops tell you they don't want to get involved. Somerset Mobile Diagnostics specializes in SRS system diagnostics and repairs. We can tell you why the SRS light is on and even perform weight sensor calibrations or system programming if necessary. Remote keyless entry stop working?
Many shops will scratch there heads when trying to diagnose these systems. Comprised of several antenaes and wireless receivers, the proper tooling is required to diagnose a non working system. Many times the battery in the remote goes weak, but what happens after that new battery is installed and the system still does not work. Let us come to you to properly diagnose the cause. Again, we have to correct tooling to quickly and efficiently pinpoint the problem.
Electronic suspension sitting too low?
With air suspensions and electronic vehicle levelling becoming common on many vehicles today, what happens when you get in your car to drive and it is sitting too high or even worse, too low? Usually considered an enhanced system, many repair shops do not have to correct computer system to properly diagnose these systems. In addition, many of the components in this system require special calibration procedures upon replacement. Don't be told the dealership is your only option, where you will probably be sold additional un-needed parts. Adaptive headlights not functioning correctly?
