About Us

In the Beginning:

I started in the automotive repair industry at 15 years old, helping out sweeping floors in a local garage. Over the next several years, my enthusiasm and drive to repair vehicles grew tremendously. Through a determined drive, I was almost always able to figure even the most puzzling automotive issues. Our shop began seeing an influx of vehicles from other local shops that were stuck on a difficult problem. Challenging to say the least, but exciting for someone growing in the automotive field.

Over time however, our shop began losing jobs because we did not have the ability to access certain systems or program replacement components. As vehicles became more complex, we lost more and more jobs to local dealerships. I eventually stepped into a management position at that shop and spent much more time running the day to day operations rather than pursuing diagnostic challenges.

My dreams started to outgrow those four walls and the idea for Somerset Mobile Diagnostics was born. I wanted to start a service that combined outstanding diagnostic knowledge with the correct diagnostic equipment to make sure that no job had to be given away to a dealership. At that time, the idea of a mobile auto technician was almost laughed about in the industry.

I began to research factory scan tools and enhanced diagnostic equipment, however as a newlywed with a new mortgage, the idea of spending tens of thousands of dollars on technology that appeared to go obsolete within a short time seemed almost insane. Yet the drive was still there and I knew that sometimes you just have to take the leap and learn to fly on the way down. I started with only some basic diagnostic equipment and a single factory scan tool. Slowly, one shop at a time, I made a name for myself as a reliable, knowledgeable a professional technician. Word of mouth from repeat customers was the biggest form of advertisement I could find, so I have continually pursued great relationships with every shop that has worked with me.

Fast forward several challenging years, and we now service over 200 shops throughout central NJ. It has been a long, slow, challenging process, but worth every ounce of sweat poured into it. Somerset Mobile Diagnostics has a stellar name and reputation throughout the automotive repair industry and with every major insurance company oeprating throughout the area. We strive hard to make sure every shop's needs are met when hiring us for a service. It has certainly been worth the effort!

Where we are headed:

We now find ourselves in an interesting time. Technological advancements in vehicles have grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years, leaving many shops scratching their heads wondering what they will have to deal with next. There are plenty of rumors and ideas floating around the industry regarding remote vehicle diagnostics and programming, one scan tool that will fix everything, information systems that can tell you exactly what parts to replace based on a trouble code. All great ideas based on a simple need to make a complex vehicles and problems more simple to repair.

I believe the next few years will be a very interesting time in this industry. Whether any of these ideas become a reality or if vehicles continue to become increasingly complex to repair, you can count on Somerset Mobile Diagnostics to stay on the front line of diagnostics and programming. Althought the idea of remotely diagnosing a vehicle sounds great, there will always be a strong need for a knowledgeable set of hands directly at the vehicle. I'm excited at the prospects facing the automotive repair industry and at the chance to be a part of the changes happening today!
